ADVENTURE LAKE

ADVENTURE-An unusual and exciting experience

LAKE- A large inland body of water

As I turned into Adventure Lake and began a slow drive down the long winding driveway to the lake lodge all I could think about were all those photographs of big fish and smiling anglers posted on the Adventure Lake web-site who were having the time of their lives. I arrived along with our editor Eddie McCalip who had came along to film this trip for our television show Outdoor Legends. Eddie and I had a few moments to take in some of the beauty of the lake before Jerry Kelley arrived with whom I would be fishing.

After launching the boat we immediately began fishing the bank toward a submerged gravel road Jerry was familiar with. I began throwing a zara spook next to the bank and working it steadily, upon reaching the gravel road I made a long cast, after working the bait about five feet I heard the attack of an F-1 bass as the water around my bait exploded and the zara spook was engulfed, the 4-pound fish put up some fight, I just grinned thinking man what a day this will be.

Jerry took us back into a cove as the sun was rising above the trees, where we picked up several fish on a three blade buzz-bait and a frog.

After the bite faded in the shallow cove we moved back toward the boat ramp and boat house. Jerry advised me that numerous big fish had been caught around this boat dock. I began throwing a crank-bait, Jerry began throwing a Carolina rigged worm and immediately began putting fish in the boat, after about five fish I followed suit.

After making a cast with a Gambler Bacon Rind, with the lure falling, Jerry asked if I could hand him his shades, as I reached for the shades I felt a tap on the line, upon handing the shades to Jerry I pulled on the line, the rod loaded and I set the hook.

It was on, the fish immediately began taking drag heading for deep water and seemed to be pulling straight down, I knew this was a good fish, I began yelling for Jerry to get the net as the fish headed for the sky about 15-yards from the boat, I drove my rod deep into the water to pull the fish from the sky. Jerry was able to get the net and after a couple of passes by the boat he netted the 7lb 9oz bass for me. I think I told him I loved him and I had only met him that day, what a day this was turning out to be.

We fished the Carolina rig picking up fish after fish until Neil Scrimpshire began calling us on the handheld radio’s he provides telling that dinner would be ready at 11:30 at the lake lodge. We worked our way back to the boat ramp and Lake Lodge, when I walked in the smell of all the food and just the sight of it took me back to every Thanksgiving I could remember. As I stood there gazing at the enormous amount of food Neil startled me as he walked up and said “Tim you caught the biggest fish so you have to go first.”

As I sat down to the great meal, Eddie was hooking the video to the widescreen projection screen television, we were able to sit and watch the unedited version of the show as we ate.

As we headed back out into the lake to fish the second half of the day, the other guys enjoyed a few rounds of skeet shooting on the back side of the dam. I don’t know what kind of skeet thrower they have but from the boat I could see them coming from every direction. The bite was steady and we caught fish after fish on the Carolina rig and crankbaits the rest of the evening.

We caught approximately 75 to 80 fish all day with a great number of them being in the 3 to 4 pound range. I can’t say enough good things about Adventure Lake, I would recommend it to anyone wishing to have an adventure to remember the rest of their lives, and I know I will.

Adventure Lake is located near Laurel and Ellisville a map can be downloaded from their website www.adventurelake.com this is a great lake to fish, you have the opportunity to catch a lunker and great numbers of these F-1 bass, which are very aggressive and put up some fight.

LUKE 5:4-6

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for draught.

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
